Its time to talk about everyones favorite thing in the world, the saving system. I won't even talk about checkpoint systems they shouldn't even exist but I have some gripes with auto saves in our games. I was playing Knights of the Old Republic 2(kotorII) and I had gotten pretty far into a level but then in a little bit of a not enough attention I was killed, thinking that the game must have autosaved at least somewhere behind me I wasn't to worried. Oh but the game had not saved, I had to play through the whole level again. Granted I could save on the way but when you're in a game and just not a care in the world, you forget to save, I think they should rethink the way autosaves are done.
My favorite autosave in the world is empire earth's a rts for that matter which is a bit sad but this game instead of autosaving at a big moment or level, it would save every few minutes. That way you could have just died or computer goes off by accident but you know you have a saved file at least a few minutes away. If they could autosave like this in a game, I would be immensely happy because no more doing the level over again or starting at a awkward place you would be a few minutes away. This may not work in a fast paced game where it takes 10 minutes for a battle but this is where the seconded part of the autosave feature comes in, you would get a save maybe after every battle or after you enter a room that is a few rooms away from the last save.
The game that has gotten me most with its autosave is Alice in Wonderland, if you haven't heard of it think of the setting of Alice in wonderland story but with demonic and screwed up style. The autosave here is bad as you only save at least at the start and the middle. Why haven't people thought that it might be nice if you have just about finished the game but then you die that you could start again without doing all the stuff to end the level. This also bring me to not so much a bother but still annoying cutscenes. To use Alice again, I had to climb a mountain but kept dieing at this part, which made me do the level over again, I wasn't far ahead in the level but every time I started over I had to do the level over again a couple cutscenes would play but I couldn't skip them. I had seen the cutscenes at least twice so they were getting to be boring, I think there should always be a button to push to skip cutscenes if you don't want to see them again or in the first place.
So please, game makers let us be able to skip the cutscene and make it so the autosave actually saves later in the game. With these small thing I won't quit a program cause I don't want to see the same cutscene over again or I haft to do the level all over again.
