Hey Folks
Its your Scottish Samurai again here to talk about his latest in technological changes which is all this blog is ever about now. If you do read this and seem to enjoy my very random and far in-between post please drop a comment saying "you suck post more" or more likely "you suck post less", either would be fine. And on to what I am here for.
Remember a few posts back I got myself a new Macbook Pro for school and writing (not on this blog suckas!). Well that machine is out the door, sold away too hopefully a happy customer who will love that machine like I did. I have decided to change my style of post about instead of talking about a new computer, I will speak about my old after what amounts to about a year and half of using it.
The first I know its a year and half does not seem long to own a machine and may even imply I did not enjoy my old computer however this is false, I did love my old laptop but life and well needs changed for something different. My old Macbook Pro was baseline 13inch, it has a 2.3 Ghz i5, 320 GB HDD, and 4 GB of Ram. All told it really was not meant to win races, or even be a packmule but instead was simply to allow me to move around in my ability to write, create and surf. It did that well, when I got the MBP compared to my old ASUS I was blowen away by the weight difference and ease of use with the power of OSX for a laptop. My laptop soon came with me to class and took notes, wrote every essay, and allowed me to create some fun video content. Its limited specs allowed this to happen as I could really do nothing with the machine, and instead could focus on just pure writing. The machine did that well, but the limited specs did soon wear at me.
Later in its short time with me I found myself annoyed at its long load times, attempts to deal with many pages open and soon what I loved became annoying as I found things took longer. These annoyances had nothing to do with the breakdown of the machine, rather a realization of the speed of computers around me. With a purchase of an iPad I soon found myself with a laptop that collected dust and did almost nothing as my iMac came back as my main computer and iPad as mobile internet device. I realized my laptop at that point had no use, I didn't write on it, used it barely during a week and now found it heavy to carry around, and more of hassle to bring with me if I wanted to write, yet something I did miss about having a laptop.
When I went home for the holidays I made the conscious effort to only bring my iPad because I wanted to test to see if I could survive just on it. I really do love the iPad (I should mention its the mini) because its the perfect size for reading information from the web, and to just carry everywhere. It always is in my bag as I never know when I will be stuck some where and now has replaced my tradition of always having a book with me. When home though I did find I missed having an actual capable OS, and keyboard for heavy browsing or any form of creation. The iPad just couldn't do it for me, I needed it to do things that it just isn't meant to do. That is when I made the decision I need to sell my old laptop and get something lighter and quicker.
The decision to be honest was an easy one for which kind of computer I needed, an ultra books, light powerful and quick all in a sexy package. I also knew it was going to be a Mac because I love its OS on a laptop as it just makes sense to I took a look at the Macbook Air. My brother got a 11inch Air a year back which I loved, easy to use and almost no space at all though I found for writing it just didn't have the same feel, the screen size with the keyboard just felt wrong. So I ended up going with a 13inch Air with i5 1.8 GHz, 8 GB of Ram, and 128 GB solid state. All in all this was going to be a quick laptop with that SSD. For writing it is perfect as its light, quick to open things and little on space so won't bog down with trying to fill it with games or movies. I have yet to receive but I can't wait. I think this guy will be with me for a while longer as I would find it hard to need anything else.
That is what is new with my in hardware, nothing amazing, nothing incredible but a small update to what I do. I am hoping to increase my writing with the new laptop as I want to improve my review/editorial skills in the coming future, plus practice makes perfect. Though since I don't game this blog may change focus a little, either technology, tv, or a little of both.
Thanks for listening
