Meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Well folks, my trusty campanion computer has finally died. After 6 years of working and fidling I have to put it into my graveyard of computer parts. I have yet no idea why it has stopped working, it just froze after a recent battle with a virus and luckily going to University has its benifits. But it will be sad to say goodbye to my computer it has been around along time.

Now let me bore you with the histroy and starting of my computer, and stop readng if don't feel like drooling of sleep. My earlier gaming machine before the late computer was a crappy old pc, that could run starcraft and half life barly. So comes a birthday and I ask for a new video card. My parents get my a nice shiny one too, but when we try it in the computer it won't fit, then we try my mom's computer which had been a bit newer and it won't fit. My father returns the video card and buys a lesser one but one that might work...but it doesn't. Finally my dad gives me his computer which was newer but even then a year old. It works and I have the starting of my new computer. It is outfitted with 1.7 ghz cpu, 256 ram, a 128 mb nividea 5800(lg something) and 40 gb of HDD. It wesnt the gaming machine of awesome at the very least.

A few years go buy with me able to play games barly but playable but then Half Life 2 comes out. I try and play it, and it barely runs. My hardware skills having increaed I was able to slavage my brothers supposed gaming machine ram and give myself a 512 ram which helped alot. A few weeks later it was my birthday and I asked for a new video card which turned out to be a x700 ati with 256 of vram. This makes my machine surviavle, I should also mention I got a new saitek backlight keyboard and g5 logitech mouse so i was feeling a bit more gamerish.

The next summer I have gotten myself a job and was rolling in a bit of cash. I had been buying games like a madman but was tiring of the slow framerates and always worring. Thus I bought myself 1 gig of high powered ram and a 320 gb hard drive. It was a pretty machine to me, and granted it did not even scare serious games, it played mine much better. At this state my computer specs was 1.7 ghz of ram (I did try to upgrade but cost to much), 1 gig of ram, ati x700 256 vram video card, and a pretty 320 gb of HDD. Along with this upgrade came another salvage of my brothers computer, the case, which was had a more gaming look to it and bigger.

Later that winter it got itself a nice new 22" moniter and boy did I pay for it in money and framerates but I was in love. I still to this day, am amazed at its size and sometimes miss it (later on that). Then came surround sound 5.1 speakers, which also intorduced a sound card. This was something a little extra, and never really needed but am happy to have.

Finally the last upgrade, which came about from a virus that i had to wipe my machine for. When I tired to install xp again, it was not finiding my 320gb hard drive no matter what I did. This was when my last slavaging job from my brothers ex gaming comp came. Its 80 gb hard drive, which xp found and brought my hard drive capcity to 400 gb.

Then came the end day. I was battleing a virus that crippled my computer to an almost halt. No mater what I did it would not go away, and I needed to use it so my I thought of putting in my old 40gb hard drive for a temporary replacement. This turned out to be a mistake because once plugged in my computer froze when booting. I did everything, checking cables, cleaning, and changing the hard drive back but nothing would make it go past the "decting Ide something".

My parents grasiously said they would let me get my laptop was going to get for univesity now and am happy to say she's a pretty beast. For a nice price I got myself a asus laptop with duel 2.5 ghz (and apprently the best cpu for a laptop), 3 gb of ram, 250 gb of hard drive (with my removable hard drive, my old one 320 and 80 bring me up to 770 gb), and a nvidia geforce 9500m gs with 512 mb vram. It is a massive step up but am happy to have stepped it.

Now you can see the trials that my old computer went to, me and it had some fun times . It from my orginal computer has only the mother board and cpu but in the end it was always the same. Now its time for me to begin a new drudgingly long escapde with my new laptop but I'm looking forward to it. But don't worry I will keep up the same old ranting of games and things just the same.

Total War: Rome II

Total War: Rome II  So it took almost 2 years but I think I finally like this game. It's amazing to me because Rome Total War probably up there in most played game. The hours I have put into the game, and the nights spent trying to take over the known world are so many.  The memory of playing the demo for the first time sticks in my brain in the original game. Taking my force and attacking from the tress in a surprise maneuver just had me my teenager mind lost in a sea of tactics and battles. From that point it was nights spent avoiding homework going "just one more turn" as my armies marches across the classical world. There was something to a game that balanced a great real time war scenario with a simple yet fun turn based system that had you stuck once you started. Years went by, and more Total War games came out, but slowly they just stopped being the Total War games I loved. Looking at them I loved certain parts but the dark era of gunpowder nev...

Sins of a Solar Empire

Yep, the game I looked so forward to is finally out and its a massive...(in anticipation I decide to keep you waiting) amazing. This has been a game to wait for this year, and should win itself a few awards. From massive epic scale battles to easy but interesting empire management, the game is a killer. You start with one planet, but have the option of conquering solar systems of up to about 20 planets and even to a galaxy which can hold 5 solar systems. This means massive empires but no worries on to much micro management, the game has a simple yet still fun way of managing you empire from a side bar which shows all planets and everything inside them. With such a large area to make you empire and for it to keep fun this game will suck away all your free time. It being an rts you will find a hard time to find a place to stop. Trust me, I will try to play this game for only an hour and then 4 hours later and probably some sort of social event gone by, I am still playing and conquering ...

A new Sheriff in town

Hey Folks, won't even go into how long it has been but as tradition, a new gaming machine means a new blog post. Normally I would post if I had upgraded my main computer with something amazing. However my old 2010 iMac is still a beast so I have yet to need to do anything with it. In the mean time Macbook Air and a Macbook Pro have done well to fill any other voids I might have. This being said today I got probably the first time, a fully operational gaming machine. It is not like a  typical gaming machine however. I don't have a huge case, or 2 GPU with i7 whatever in it. Instead i got an Alienware Alpha. This thing takes up less space then a Xbox, or PS4 yet punches even harder. It has a 2 GB Nvidia card in it paired with 8 GB of Ram, and a 250 SSD. It only has a i3 processor but this is a machine meant for games. It is not meant to destroy frame rates, or edit movies however compared to the 2010 1 GB ATI card in my iMac it can beat the pants off of it for sure. I have yet ...
